The comprehensive renovation spanned just over 6 months. It has been an incredibly gratifying project to watch this ugly duckling of a house transform into a beautiful swan. Even more gratifying are the joyous complements of the homeowners. At the end of the day, this is all that matters.

North Asheville is one of the most desirable places to live in all of Asheville. The few homes that surround the golf club at the Grove Park Inn are especially prized. The club predates the Inn(1913) and first opened for play in 1899, and was later redesigned by the famed Donald Ross. Evelyn Place is a street defined by its stately homes, mature sycamore trees, and expansive views north across the groomed course and Sunset Mountain beyond. Few streets in Asheville can boast such natural amenities. This house on Evelyn, while a much newer home than the surrounding homes dating back to the turn of the century, has at its core a modern soul, kept silent beneath decades of neglect and unfortunate renovations. All of that is about to change. The home will be stripped of the aluminum siding, faux shutters, vinyl double hung windows, faux brick water table, and awkward gable roofs, and replaced with all new: Ipe shiplap siding, awning windows, roof, landscaping, garden walls, open bluestone terrace and over 2500 sf of additional space including a 2-car garage, screened porch and master suite. The new design by Brickstack Architecture + Design and General Contractor, Bellwether Design Build maintains the home’s mid-century, low-lying aesthetic, while providing the owner’s with a fresh, contemporary place that is at home with its historic neighbors.
